The Year 2021 Economic Situation and Power Development Analysis and Forecast Meeting successfully held in Beijing-1

In order to accelerate the construction of a new power system with new energy as the mainstay,  promote the implementation of the carbon peak and carbon neutral goal and provide a strong power guarantee for high-quality economic and social development, the China Electricity Council (referred to as "CEC") held the "Year 2021 Economic Situation and Power Development Analysis and Forecast Meeting" in Beijing on 29 April 2021. The Meeting was held in live and network and was presided over by Mr. XIA Zhong, Vice President of China Electricity Council.


Under the theme of "Analysis and Outlook of Macroeconomics and Energy and Electricity Situation", the conference invited well-known experts and leaders from relevant government departments and research institutions to have excellent policy interpretations, analysis and forecasts on carbon peaking, carbon neutrality, macroeconomic situations, financial situations, and the construction of the "One Belt and One Road", energy development trends and other aspects.


Mr. YANG Kun, the Executive President of the China Electricity Council, made a special report entitled "Promote Achieving Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality, Accelerate the Construction of New Power System with New Energy as the mainstay", and analyzed the new characteristics of electricity production and consumption during the "13th Five-Year Plan". In the report, he pointed out that the electrification process has been significantly accelerated, and the quality of development has been continuously improved; the low-carbon transformation of electricity has continued to accelerate, and the green development momentum has been strong; the transformation and upgrading of rural power grids has been deepened, all of which make important contributions to the fight against poverty. He emphasized that to build a new power system with new energy as the main body, it is necessary to accelerate the formation of a power supply pattern with new energy as the mainstay, build a highly flexible, digital, and intelligent power system, deeply promote the energy consumption revolution, improve energy efficiency, fully realize the decisive role of market in the allocation of resources and puts forward relevant policy recommendations.


Mr. XU Xianchun, the former Deputy Director of the National Bureau of Statistics, analyzed the characteristics of economic operation in the first quarter of from the perspectives of production, demand, income, and new economic momentum, and looked forward to the economic situation throughout the year. He pointed out that our country's economy is still recovering and contact-intensive consumption is expected to have rapid recovery in the future. And industries related to the new economy and new momentum will continuously contribute to economic growth.


Mr. MO Wangui, the Deputy Director of the Financial Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China, analyzed the current financial situation and future financial policy trends from the three dimensions: total volume, structure, and price, and put forward the challenges and opportunities of the power industry during the process of moving toward the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality. He analyzed in detail on the policies and measures of finance to support green and low-carbon development and prevent climate risks.


Mr. ZHAI Dongsheng, Director of the “One Belt and One Road” Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, profoundly elaborated on the purpose and significance of the “One Belt and One Road” construction, summarized the obvious progresses and the new domestic and international situations, and analyzed the basic strategies and key tasks in the future.


Mr. HAN Wenke, the Senior Consultant at the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission and a researcher at the Academy of Macroeconomic Research, introduced the overall situation of the domestic and international energy industry from two aspects of energy demand and supply. He proposed that energy transition is the key to achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality and analysis the impact of carbon peak and carbon neutrality on oil and gas industry and new energy industry in the medium and long-term development.
