Yang Kun attends the Seminar on China

On March 18, the Seminar on China's CO2 Emission Peak and Carbon Neutrality was held in Beijing by Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO). Yang Kun, Executive Vice President of China Electricity Council (CEC), attended the seminar and delivered a keynote speech.

Yang Kun said in his speech that the carbon peak and carbon neutrality targets had pictured a clear future for a new development pattern and were of far-reaching significance for the new journey towards a modern socialist country, being built in an all-round way.

Yang Kun pointed out that carbon peak and low carbon had become a hard constraint on China’s energy development, which brought higher requirements on  rationally planning for energy transition path and constantly pushing forward high-quality energy development.

These requirements include:

- fully ensuring power supply safety;

- promoting low carbon energy production;

- further promoting electrification on final energy consumption;

- enhancing system adjustment capability;

- strengthening technical innovation as well as system and mechanism building;

- setting up phased targets towards carbon peak and carbon neutrality in the power industry.

Yang Kun confirmed that “CEC will give a full play to its role as a third-party platform to echo the common voices of power sector, and take the initiative to offer advice and suggestions for relevant departments in their processes of policy researching and standard setting. CEC would like to make contribution to the healthy and sustainable development of the power sector and strive for achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality.”

Valuable research results on several topics such as China's carbon peak by 2030, China’s carbon neutrality by 2060, energy and power development plan in China by 2030 and the outlook of China for 2060, etc., were released during the seminar. Meanwhile, a systematic solution to reduce carbon emission by establishing China’s energy internet was proposed for the first time.
