Power Industry Carbon Trading Forum held in Beijing

Cohosted by CEC and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) from US, Power Industry Carbon Forum and Symposium on Power Industry Carbon Trading Pilot Programs Evaluation was held in Beijing on Sep 9, 2015.

Jiang Zhaoli, Deputy Director General of Climate Department of National Development and Reform Commission delivered a keynote speech themed with “Carbon Trading Pilots and Integrated Carbon Market”. Jiang believes that the carbon trading is not the purpose of forming a carbon market. Carbon market will serve as an important tool to transform the pattern of economic development and optimize the economic structure. Power enterprises will be the key role in carbon trading activities.

Wang Zhixuan, Secretary General of CEC analyzed the reality of energy conservation and emission reduction of power industry and proposed a carbon oriented, national integrated, local supervised, and self regulated structure of power industry carbon trading system.

Invited delegates from EDF of US introduced the origin, design and operation of US carbon market. Project managers from big gencos of China like Huaneng, Datang, Huadian, Guodian, SPIC, Shenhua and Yudean exchanged their experiences on the carbon trading pilot programs. CEC proposed establishing a Power Industry Carbon Trading Working Group to effectively coordinate the future actions of carbon trading for power industry.
