The world

Zhegu wind farm in Tibet Autonomous Region, funded and operated by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), hit 10 million kWh in cumulative electricity generation as of 0:19am on February 8.

The electricity generated by the wind farm, built by CTG Tibet Energy Investment Co., Ltd., is equivalent to saving a total of 40 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 96 million tons.

It is the highest wind farm in the world and has played an instrumental role in ensuring energy supply during the Spring Festival, while gaining experience in the operation of ultra-high-altitude wind power projects.

Located at an altitude of 5,000 to 5,065 meters in Shanan of Tibet, a city in the northern foothills of the Himalayas, the project has a total installed capacity of 22 MW and an annual power output of about 59 million kWh. Since its commissioning, the wind farm has been playing a comprehensive role in clean power generation and winter power supply, mitigating the power supply pressure in central Tibet. The wind farm will make a deal with Tibet Electric Power Company Ltd. on supplying 7,587,250 kWh of electricity, having positive impact on the economic and social development of Shannan City.
