CTG commences construction of a pumped storage power station with the world’s highest rated hydraulic head

CTG announced that it has commenced the construction of Tiantai pumped storage power station in Zhajiang Province on December 28.

The station, featuring the world’s highest rated hydraulic head and located in Tiantai County, is a major project of the Medium and Long-term Development Plan for Pumped Storage (2021-2035) included in the 14th Five-Year Plan. It is planned to install four 425,000-kilowatt reversible hydraulic generators, with a total installed capacity of 1.7 million kilowatts.

Upon completion, the station will mainly undertake the tasks of peak load regulation, valley filling, frequency regulation, phase modulation, power storage, and emergency use for Zhejiang's power grid, and provide flexible dispatching capacity for the East China Grid. It is expected to record an annual output of 1.7 billion kWh, cutting coal consumption by about 520,000 tons and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 1.04 million tons for Zhejiang's grid power system per year. Thus, the plant can promote the development of local green and low-carbon transformation, and promote the optimization of local energy structure. It can also improve local infrastructure, contributing to local economic development.
