World’s largest floating PV plant built by CTG powers over 100,000 households-1

The world's largest floating photovoltaic (PV) plant, built by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), generated a total of nearly 180 million kWh of electricity in 2020, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by about 184,000 tons and powering 115,000 urban and rural households.

Located in Huainan City, Anhui Province, the site of the PV plant was a former "coal mining subsidence area" with abundance of solar energy resources. CTG built a PV plant with installed capacity of 150 MW on the water surface of the site at the end of 2018, making it the world's largest floating PV plant and a local green energy base.

Covering a water area of about 741 acres, the site of the project is naturally suited for large-scale cage culture. Domestic cage culture technology is also mature. The photovoltaic panel arrays are set up above the base and fish farming is deployed below, forming a new hybrid model of industrial development. Efficient utilization of unused water surface has created ecological, social and economic benefits.
