Northeast China’s first offshore wind farm connects to the grid-1

Zhuanghe offshore wind power project (Phase III) in Dalian, operated by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), was connected to the grid at full capacity on November 25, making it the first fully completed offshore wind farm in Northeast China.

The wind farm, operated by CTG’s alternative energy arm China Three Gorges Renewables (Group) Co., Ltd., boasts a total installed capacity of 300 MW that is comprised by 72 units of 3 MW, 3.3 MW and 6.45 MW wind turbines. The project also has a complementary 220 kV offshore voltage booster and a 220 kV onshore control center.

Once in operation, the project is expected to generate 776 million kWh of electricity to the grid a year and reach an average annual utilization of 2,588 hours. The wind farm will save about 230,000 tons of standard coal per year compared with coal-fired power plants, cutting carbon dioxide emission by about 637,000 tons.
