from:China Electricity Councildate:2020-09-10

Recently, the world’s first commercial power plant based on non-supplementary fired compressed air energy storage (NSF-CAES) system began construction. Located in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, the plant is designed by Jiangsu Power Design Institute, a subsidiary of Energy China. We adopt salt cavern air storage technology to develop a novel NSF-CAES system in the plant. It will use the off-peak power to extract and compress air into salt caverns, and release the air to generate power at peak time. During the whole process, the system will not consume any fuel. After completion, the plant will be able to convert electricity for about 1660 hours per year, and its electrical efficiency will be over 60%.
