Ilha Hydropower Plant makes major advancement in modernization

CTG Brasil hoisted the stator of the generating unit 20 into the pit at the Ilha Hydropower Plant on February 28, the first modernized unit of the second batch at Jupia Hydropower Plant and Ilha Hydropower Plant of CTG Brasil, laying a solid ground for the subsequent assembly and debugging of the power units.

Both power plants are the backbone of the southeastern grid in the developed region of Brazil with an installed capacity of 4.995 GW and a total of 34 power units. The safe and stable operation of the two power plants in the long run is crucial to the electricity market of Brazil. CTG Brasil won the bid for the 30-year proprietary rights of operation of the hydropower plant on its best price in November 2015.

Through technical modernization, the two power plants, which have been running for over 40 years, will been rejuvenated. By providing high-quality power to the gid in Brazil, CTG has built itself as a first-rate clean energy brand in the country.
