CTG-developed dredging robot successfully conducts field test operation-1

DreRo-1, a self-propelled deep-hole dredging underwater robot developed by a consortium led by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), successfully completed a demonstration dredging operation at the Xiaolangdi hydropower project on the Yellow River on December 16 and 17.

During the test, DreRo-I was lowered to the sediment discharge tunnel at a depth of 82.3 meters underwater. Powered by its environmental sensing unit and integrated navigation control system, the robot conducted walking, dredging and water discharging operations in the sediment tunnel at a speed of 0.5 meters per second.

The successful test indicated that the underwater robot could adapt to different environmental underwater conditions, giving it a broad application prospect.

The underwater robot is the first of its kind in China that has the ability to dredge deep holes at 100-meter depth, which is of vital significance to the safe and stable operation of high dams with large reservoirs.
