CTG's offshore wind farm in Jiangsu connects to grid for power generation

CTG

A 300 MW offshore wind farm in Jiangsu, operated by the new energy arm of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), has been commissioned and connected to the grid as its last 6.45 MW experimental wind turbine started to turn its blades a few days ago.

Jiangsu Dafeng offshore wind farm, operated by Three Gorges New Energy, is located in the Taipingsha waters, north of DongshaShazhou in Yancheng, Jiangsu province. The wind farm spans an area of 97 km2 and is located 45 km off the coastline. It is comprised of 73 wind turbines complemented by a 220 KV offshore voltage booster and an onshore control center.

After completion, it will generate an estimated 797 GWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 500,000 households. Compared with equivalent coal-fired power generators, it saves 239,600 tons of standard coal and reduces emissions of CO2 by 527,000 tons.
