Smart Internet of Vehicles Benefits Green Travel

Electric vehicle (EV) owners have always been bothered by the inconvenience of charging their vehicles for a long-distance travel. To alleviate this problem, State Grid has vigorously promoted the development of expressway charging facilities. Till now, it has already completed a high-speed EV charging network covering "Ten Vertical" expressways such as the Beijing-Shanghai Expressway and the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway, "Ten-Horizontal"express ways such as the Qingdao-Yinchuan Expressway and the Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway, and the "Two Rings" of Capital Region Ring Expressway and Hangzhou Bay Ring Expressway. The network includes 2,080 fast EV charging stations and 8,423 EV charging piles, covering nearly 50,000 kilometers of expressway and connecting 171 cities in 19 provinces. Meanwhile, State Grid is accelerating the development of the Internet of Things in Electricity, promoting the further application of the Smart Service Platform for Internet of Electric Vehicles, and facilitating large-scale and orderly EV charging projects, so as to bring more opportunities for business innovation, service upgrading and value creation.

Data shows that during the National Day holidays, State Grid provided 918,100 EV charging and battery swapping services in its operation area, with a total volume of 21.0367GWh, of which 191,800 charging services with a total of 2.8566GWh were carried out on expressways. In these days, the average daily high-speed EV charging on expressways has reached 27,400 times with a charging volume of 408.1MWh per day, representing an increase of 248.68% and 259.51% respectively compared with ordinary days, and an increase of 70.19% and 106.63% respectively year on year. Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau Expressway, Shenyang-Haikou Expressway, Daqing-Guangzhou Expressway, Changchun-Shenzhen Expressway and Beijing-Harbin Expressway were the top five expressways seeing the highest expressway charging volume therein, and Hebei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Hubei were the top four provinces.

In addition, during the holidays, the EV charging/swapping volume also increased slightly in cities: the average daily charging/swapping was up to 73,900 times with an average daily volume of 1.2607GWh, up by 7.83% and 11.25% respectively compared with other days. The top five provinces (or municipalities) therein were Beijing, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian and Shandong.
