CTG-built Souapiti Dam in Guinea starts impounding ahead of schedule-1

Souapiti Hydropower Plant, a mega project in Guinea co-invested and built in EPC mode by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG)'s subsidiary China International Water & Electric Corporation (CWE), started impounding ahead of schedule on August 26 in a ceremony witnessed by the country's Minister of Energy and Hydraulics and Minster of Information and Communication.

The impounding lays a solid foundation for the hydropower plant to start power generation scheduled in 2020.

Souapiti Hydropower Plant, the first large-scale project in Guinea developed by CWE in EPC mode, boasts an installed capacity of 450 MW and an annual power generation of 1.899 billion kWh.

Dubbed the "Three Gorges Project in West Africa" by Guinean people, the Souapiti project has a dam axis of 1,164m and a maximum dam height of 120m with total volume of concrete pouring amounting to 3.6 million cubic meters.

The project is the largest hydropower plant currently under construction in West Africa. After commissioning, Souapiti Hydropower Plant will not only address Guinea's power shortage but also turn it to into a power exporter, powering its economic growth.
