Liu Zhenya Attended the Global Preparatory Meeting for the Climate Action Summit

On June 30, 2019 (local time), the Global Preparatory Meeting for the Climate Action Summit was held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Liu Zhenya, Chairman of Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), led a delegation to attend the Leaders'Roundtable on Energy Transition for Climate Action and Parallel Meeting of the Energy workstream and made remarks. The remarks briefed participants on the significant role of Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) in addressing global climate change and the strategic thinking of building African Energy Interconnection and implementing the co-development of "electricity, mining, metallurgy, manufacturing and trade", providing countries with a systematic solution for implementing the Paris Agreement in a technologically advanced, economically efficient, feasible, replicable, scalable and quantifiable manner, which has won high praise and positive response from the participants.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Liu Zhenya held talks with key leaders and officials attending the meetings, including Luis Alfonso de Alba, Special Envoy for 2019 Climate Summit of the UN Secretary-General, Rachel Kyte, CEO of Sustainable Energy for All, Francesco La Camera, Director-GeneraloftheInternationalRenewable EnergyAgency(IRENA),and Seleshi Bekele, Minister of Water, Irrigation and Electricity of Ethiopia. The development philosophy and action plan of GEI are highly recognized by relevant parties. According to relevant parties, accelerating clean development and energy connectivity is crucial to the global combat against climate change and will help all countries accelerate the energy transition and deliver emission reduction commitments. They are willing to support and promote the incorporation of GEI into the Action Area of "Energy Agenda" of the Climate Action Summit and make joint efforts to realize the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.
