The first large-scale pumped storage power station has been put into operation in China

25th September, the last unit of the Shenzhen Pumped Storage Power Station was put into commercial operation, marking the first large-scale pumped storage power station built in mega-city in China. The power plant is 25 kilometers away from Hong Kong, Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant and Lingao Nuclear Power Plant. The power plant static investment is 4.948 billion yuan, with a total installed capacity of 1.2 million KW (4x300,000 KW). The designed annual power generation capacity is 1.511 billion KW hours. The project is expected to save 158,000 tons of standard coal, 183,000 tons of natural gas and 2717.28 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

After the Shenzhen Storage Power Station is fully put into operation , it will not only conducive to optimizing the power supply structure, reducing transmission costs, meeting the increasing demand for peak shaving, improving the operation conditions of nuclear power and thermal power, but also conducive to fully absorbing clean power from the West, alleviating the load pressure of Shenzhen and even Hong Kong power grid, and improving the safety and economy of power grid operation.

The project is fully invested by China Southern Power Grid Company, and the Southern Power Grid Peaking and Frequency Control Company is responsible for the construction.
