State Grid Smart Internet of Vehicles Project Wins 2018 Edison Awards

In the morning of 6th June , 2018 PST, Edison Electric Institute (EEI) announced that the State Grid’s Smart Internet of Vehicles project won the 2018 Edison Awards, making State Grid the first Chinese power enterprise received the award. Mr. Yang Jinbai, Executive Vice President of State Grid, attended the Award Presenting Ceremony and delivered a speech on behalf of State Grid.

Mr. Yang Jinbai pointed out in his speech that State Grid has always been focusing on the development of technology and standards, as well as customer experience. With traditional approaches to grid development being constantly challenged by emerging technologies, State Grid proactively explores the best business model to promote re-electrification and provide customers with stable, safer, and greener electricity.

State Grid's strategy in the new era is to build world- class energy intergrid enterprise with global influence. Therefore, global influence and energy intergrid are the two pillars of this new strategy. After UHV DC project won the National Award for Science and Technology Progress last year, State Grid got another international award with its Smart Internet of Vehicles project, which shows State Grid's efforts and achievements in developing an energy intergrid and expanding global influence.

In recent years, following the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, State Grid’s Smart Internet of Vehicles has witnessed rapid development. By the end of April 2018, 6286 battery charging and swaping stations and 56,000 charging piles were established, forming a "nine verticals, nine horizontals and two ring" highway quick charge system that covers 31,000km of highway and more than 150 cities. In addition, 183,000 charging piles from other operators have been connected to The Internet of Vehicles platform. Currently, the Smart Internet of Vehicles has become the world’s largest electrical vehicle battery charging network and Internet of Vehicles platform, significantly promoting the rapid development of electrical vehicles in China.

Established in 1922, the Edison Awards are granted by EEI to recognize power enterprises with outstanding achievements in leadership, innovation, and contribution to the power industry. It is widely regarded as the highest honor of the industry.
