In 2019, a total number of 109 coal-fired units of 1,000MW were incorporated into the reliability statistics of China Electricity Councul (CEC), totaling 110GW in capacity. The average equivalent availability factor was 92.42%, decreased by 0.18 percentage points. The unplanned outage was 0.35 times per unit·year, decreased by 0.25 times per unit·year. The average operating exposure rate (operating exposure rate=actual operating hours / available operating hours) was 85%, decreased by 1.82 percentage points year-on-year. 

Operational Reliability of Coal-fired Power Generating Units 2019-1

In 2019, a total number of 520 coal-fired units of 600 MW were incorporated into the reliability statistics, of which 494 units are made in China with a total capacity of 326GW, accounting for 41.98% of the total. The average equivalent availability factor was 92.69%, an increase of 0.21 percentage points year on year. The unplanned outage was 0.51 times per unit·year, decreased by 0.28 times per unit year on year. The average operating exposure rate was 81.76%, an increase of 0.14 percentage points year on year.

Operational Reliability of Coal-fired Power Generating Units 2019-2

In 2019, a total number of 864 coal-fired units of 300 MW were incorporated into the reliability statistics, of which 806 units are made in China with a total capacity of 278GW. The average equivalent availability factor was 93.03%, an increase of 0.88 percentage points year on year. The unplanned outage was 0.51 times per unit·year, decreased by 0.29 times per unit year on year. The average operating exposure rate was 79.92%, an increase of 0.03 percentage points year on year.

Operational Reliability of Coal-fired Power Generating Units 2019-3

In 2019, a total number of 547 coal-fired units of supercritical and above were incorporated into the reliability statistics. The average equivalent availability factor was 92.8%, an increase of 0.12 percentage points year on year. The unplanned outage was 0.48 times per unit·year, decreased by 0.03 times per unit year on year. 

Operational Reliability of Coal-fired Power Generating Units 2019-4

In 2019, the reliability of supporting auxiliary equipment for large-scale coal-fired units in China steadily improved. The operation factors of the five major auxiliary equipment incorporated into the statistics i.e. coal mill, feed pump, blower, induced draft fan and high-pressure heater, increased by 0.86, 2.82, 1.08, 1.08 and 1.09 percentage points respectively year on year. The unplanned outage rate of coal mills and blowers decreased year on year, and the feed pump, induced draft fan and high-pressure heater remained the same year on year.

Operational Reliability of Coal-fired Power Generating Units 2019-5

In 2019, the operation factors of dust removal and desulfurization equipment were 74.5% and 74.54% respectively, up 0.75 and 0.54 percentage points year on year, and the operation factors of denitrification system was 78.28%.
