China Southern Power Grid - A Major Energy Leader at Inaugural Boao Smart Grid International Forum

Hainan - From November 6 to 8, the inaugural Boao Smart Grid International Forum was held in the coastal town of Boao, Hainan.

This important international forum had, as its mantra, the pursuit of “extensive consultation, joint contribution, shared benefits and win-win results” and focused on smart grid technology sharing launched by China Southern Power Grid in order to provide a platform for government, enterprises and experts to exchange ideas about energy transformation and smart grid capabilities.

The themes of the forum helped attendees from across China and South Asia understand the integrate value chain in the energy industry, empowering the construction of energy ecosystem, accelerate the development of Digital China and promote digitalization worldwide.

The three-day forum, under the theme “Smart Grid, Smart Future”, was highlighted by keynote presentations in the main forum along with several sub-forums.

Representatives from the government, universities, industry organizations and energy enterprises shared their views on the smart grid.

During the Boao Smart Grid International Forum, the SCG Smart Grid Experience Center was opened for participants who could visit and learn about CSG’s remarkable achievements in smart grid construction. Booths were also arranged for 21 energy companies from the upstream and downstream of the industry to exhibit their products and services.

20 Smart Grid Demonstration Zones Under Construction in Five Provinces of South China

The emergence of a new round of worldwide technological and industrial breakthroughs have empowered the energy industry by integrating it with the information technologies and the speed of the global Internet.

It is now widely accepted that developing smart grids technology ensures energy security, tackles climate changes, protect precious natural environments and achieves sustainable development.

All types of new technologies, such as inspection drones, smart electric meters, AI and big data calculation, have relieved arduous manual physical labor … and by applying a series of technology to improve the smart grid, CSG can help clients better understand and manage the power grid, providing easier and wider access to electricity for its customers.

China Southern Power Grid has long been committed to the exploration and application of smart grid technology as the 20 smart power grid demonstration zones, which are currently under construction in five provinces in South China, are the model of the energy industry.
Integrate the Value Chain in Energy Industry

“The smart grid is a comprehensive project that requires joint efforts of all parties,” said Chen Yunpeng, Vice President of CSG, emphasizing that a number of high-tech smart grid projects have been completed or are under construction by the Company. These achievements are indebted to extensive consultation and joint contributions from all sides.

In early September of this year, a joint innovation lab set up by Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau and Huawei Technologies Ltd., Co. showcased a number of technological achievements first applied in the power industry and today around the world. A new generation of smart power transmission inspection systems, empowered by AI and IoT technology, can instantly analyze transmission line defects and anomalies in real time and give feedback and warnings to inspectors.

“It had taken our inspectors 20 days to complete their manual inspections. Now using these smart technology systems, the work time has been reduced to only two hours,” said Wei Qianhu, deputy director of the Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau.

The extraordinary transformation of the energy industry has brought about exceptional new industrial forms and models. Power enterprises have significant systematic and professional advantages in integrating and leading the upstream and downstream industrial chains.
