CSG West-East Electricity Transmission Hits Record High;Fifth Consecutive Year

Guangzhou – During Year 2016, China Southern Power Grid (CSG) transmitted more than 195 TWh of electricity in its West- East Electricity Transmission Project, an increase of 3.2% on a year-on-year basis - marking a record high for the fifth consecutive year

During this time period, the company also utilized 16.5 TWh of excess hydropower.

Throughout Year 2016, through cross-provincial marketized transaction, CSG organized marketized transactions of its Yunnan-to-Guangdong electricity transmission serving a total of ten times. During this process, CSG senior staff continued daily tracking transmission volumes and analyzing this key data every 10 days to ensure power transmission was being efficiently conducted from Yunnan to Guangdong.

As the Chinese Central Government advocated the use of alternative energy sources in its energy supply reform practices, CSG substituted fossil fuels with varied clean energies. Specifically, clean hydropower accounted for approximately 75% of CSG’s total transmitted power, which is equal to reducing the consumption of standard coal by 50 million tons and reducing 130 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Internal CSG statistics show that annual electricity transmitted from Yunnan Province to East China in 2016 exceeded 100 TWh for the first time, reaching 110 TWh, which increased by 16% over the previous year.

The accumulative amount of electricity transmitted was 16.5 TWh more than the volume set in agreements and power supplies from Yunnan Province took up 59% of the total supply volume, marking a seven percent increase over the previous year.

While optimizing its power purchase structure, CSG overall made a significant difference in energy conservation and emission reduction by improving the proportion of non-fossil fuels being utilized in its power grids.
