CSG Invited to the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Exhibition

On March 23, the first Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leader’s Meeting, also the Lancang-Mekong Countries Cooperation Exhibition, was held at Yalong Bay Conference Center in Sanya, Hainan Province. ChinesePremier Li Keqiang, Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-och, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Lao Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, Vice President of Myanmar Sai Mauk Kham, and Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh attended the meeting. After the meeting, Premier Li Keqiang and leaders of other five countries visited the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Exhibition. As a key recommended company by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Development and Reform Commission, CSG was invited to attend the exhibition. CSG’s Board Chairman Zhao Jianguo introduced joint achievements made by CSG and five countries along Mekong River to the government officials attending the exhibition. Company officials from CSG International Co. Ltd and CSG international department also attended the exhibition.

When visiting the exhibition stand of CSG, Premier Li asked about the progress of Vinh Tan 1 BOT Coal-Fired Power Plant Project, and whether the project and equipment was designed and made in China. Mr. Zhao Jianguo expatiated on Vinh Tan Project, and answered Premier Li’s questions. In October 2013, when Premier Li Keqiang paid a visit to Vietnam, he and Vietnam Prime Minister witnessed the issuing of the investment license to the BOT project. This project was launched in July 2015, and is expected to put its first unit into operation by the end of 2018; in the first half of 2019, all units are expected to be in operation. Board Chairman Zhao Jianguo also reported to Premier Li and other leaders at the exhibition on Nam Tha 1 Hydropower project in Laos, the 230kV Northern Laos EPC Power Grid project, power grid interconnection and power trade between CSG and neighboring countries, and training of students from Laos. Mr. Zhao also briefed on CSG’s proposal of building a summit mechanism for electric power enterprises of China and neighboring countries, saying that CSG would be glad to cooperate with Lancang-Mekong countries, so as to contribute more to the development of the regional economy. CSG hoped that leaders of these six countries would support electric power cooperation between Lancang-Mekong countries. Mr. Yang Jing, Secretary-General of the State Council, Mr. Xu Shaoshi, Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, and other relevant ministerial officials visited the exhibition stand of CSG. They highly appreciated the joint achievements made by CSG and other five countries along the Mekong River.

Under the theme of “Shared River, Shared Future”, this exhibition was divided into five parts, namely general introduction, production capacity cooperation, agriculture and water resources, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and Charming Hainan. The aim of the exhibition is to show the achievements made by these six countries in interconnection and production capacity cooperation, and to exhibit China’s advanced production capacity and production technology. In the general introduction part, CSG’s Vinh Tan Project, as the only Sino-Vietnam cooperation project recommended by the Chinese Embassy to Vietnam, was given a focused introduction. Apart from CSG, other 13 companies and institutions also exhibited in the production capacity cooperation part, including China Guodian Corporation, China National Building Materials Group Corporation, China Metallurgical Group Corporation, China Railway and Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center. At the exhibition stand of CSG, sand tables, pictures, articles and videos were used to display the fruits countries had reaped in power grid interconnection, electricity cooperation and cultural exchanges. The practical cooperation between CSG and its neighboring countries in electric power was applauded by leaders and delegates attending this exhibition, and CSG’s elegant exhibition stand was widely acclaimed.

The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Mechanism was a key initiative proposed by Premier Li in November 2014 during the 17th China-ASEAN leaders’ meeting, aiming at deepening all-round friendly cooperation between China and countries along Mekong River, enhancing sub-regional development level, promoting regional integration, and supporting the building of ASEAN community. This proposal won full support from Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Before this meeting, three Senior Officials’ Meetings on Lancang-Mekong Cooperation and one Foreign Ministers’ Meeting had been held.
