Bi Yaxiong Meets with Representatives from Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia & Myanmar; Further Cooperation and Power Grid Connectivity Planned Among Lancang-Mekong Countries

Nanning - Mr. Bi Yaxiong, Vice President of China Southern Power Grid (CSG), held fruitful discussions with senior managers from Lancang-Mekong power enterprises and representative from the Burmese government who were attending the 5th Lancang-Mekong Power Utility Summit in Nanning, Guangxi.

Participating in these discussions were:

• Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Vice President of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN);
• Mr. Patana Sangsriroujana, Deputy Governor of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT);
• Mr. Nou Sokhon, Consultant of Electricité du Cambodge (EDC), and
• Mr. Kyaw Swar Soe Naing, Director of Department of Electric Power Transmission and System Control of the Ministry of Electric Power and Energy of Myanmar (MOEE)

During his meetings with Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Mr. Bi said that CSG would endeavor to ensure the normal operations of Vinh TanⅠCoal-fired Power Plant BOT Project in Vietnam.

In his prepared remarks, Mr. Bi said, “CSG would like to make full use of the advantages in management, technology, capital, etc., to strengthen cooperation in the application of new technologies and the connection of onshore independent power plant to the grid, so as to facilitate Vietnam’s economic and social development.”

Mr. Nguyen agreed, adding that CSG’s projects in Vietnam, “had demonstrated the advanced technology and management, and hoped to receive more help from CSG regarding high-caliber technical personnel training as well as medium-and high-voltage power grid interconnection.”

When meeting with Mr. Sangsriroujana, Mr. Bi promised that CSG, “would help build a stable power grid for the energy transformation and the economic development in Thailand.”

Mr. Sangsriroujana noted that Thailand was, “striving to improve energy structure by importing more clean energy from neighboring countries.”

He also expressed his desire to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with CSG in terms of renewable energy.

When meeting with Mr. Sokhon, Mr. Bi noted that China and Cambodia, “had made substantial achievements in personnel training and technical exchanges” and that CSG will continue, according to Mr. Bi, to deepen the cooperation on both sides in power projects and use its own advantages to serve Cambodia’s economic and social development.

Mr. Sokhon extended his gratitude to CSG for its sincere assistance and hoped that CSG would continue to promote Cambodia-China power cooperation. As a result, mutual benefits, win-win results and shared development can be achieved.”

Upon meeting with Mr. Kyaw Swar Soe Naing, Mr. Bi expressed his willingness to, “study the feasibility of power grid construction in Myanmar”, and shared his prayers that “both sides can utilize their respective advantages to strengthen cooperation, take further steps to implement projects, and promote power grid connectivity.”

Mr. Kyaw Swar Soe Naing also hoped that both sides would give incentive to the China-Myanmar 500kV power grid interconnection project and strengthen cooperation in personnel training and technical exchanges.
