Laos Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad Welcomed CSG to its New Projects

On June 18, Wang Jiuling, CSG Vice President met with Laos Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad and Khammany Inthirath, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Lao PDR. They exchanged views on the Nam Tha No. 1 Hydropower Project, 230 KV power grid construction projects in northern Laos and subsequent cooperation, Laos mineral and hydropower resources development and other matters.

Somsavat Lengsavad welcomed Wang and his staff members and gave positive feedbacks on the progress and quality of the two projects. He welcomed CSG’s participation in new projects including the grid construction project, a supporting project of China-Laos Railway .

Wang Jiuling mentioned that CSG implemented China’s One Belt and One Road Initiative and promoted connectivity. It is CSG’s determination to make every effort to make the two projects as exemplary Chinese projects abroad. He added that schedule and quality of Nam Tha No.1 hydropower project was in good shape and it could be put into operation in advance. The 230 KV power project in northern Laos was doing well and would be operated before September 30. Wang hoped that the Lao government could offer more support in residents relocation and the Lao contractors could improve their quality. “In the future, CSG hopes there will be more project development opportunities and CSG is willing to participate in the Laos grid construction .”

During the meeting with the Deputy Minister, Wang mentioned that Laos was rich in hydropower resources and encouraged Lao government to pay greater attention to the development of industry , mineral resources and non-ferrous metals to increase the added value of the Laotian hydropower resources development. Khammany Inthirath said that they were doing feasibility study of bauxite exploitation in southern Laos and both parties could talk about joint development following the construction of electric power projects. The government planned to convene the National Power Company and relevant contractors to support the power generation ahead of schedule and promised the resettlement of residents.
