Electricity Transmission to Hainan through Submarine Cables Hit 400 GWH

from:China Southern Power Griddate:2015-05-29

Up to May 27, the electricity transmission through Hainan network project hit 400 GWH in 2015, soaring by 330% compared to the same period of 2014. It was estimated that the electricity transmission would exceed 500 GWH in the first half of 2015, which would hugely relieve the electricity supply pressure in Hainan.

From January to April this year, the electricity demand in Hainan increased by 6.6%. With a strong growing momentum for electricity demand, the estimated annual demand was up to 21 TWH. The power supply network would be put under bigger pressure than in 2014.

EHV Company thus made full use of new technologies and devices, including using UAV to patrol in areas where anchoring-related accidents often occur. Up to now, the company has sent out UAV on mission for 46 times, including 17 times of submarine cable risk intervention and 19 times of regular patrol. No defect was detected during the missions. Since 2015, EHV Company had handled one case of accident where anchoring of a ship damaged submarine cables. The submarine cables was well protected with the accident percentage dropping by 96%.

On June 30, 2009, Hainan 500 KV Interconnection Project, Asia’s largest and world’s second largest extra high voltage, long distance and large capacity cross-sea cable interconnection project, was completed and put into operation. The project signified the end of island operation in Hainan in the past century. After interconnection, Hainan power network will continue to improve the quality and reliability of power supply on the basis of the CSG network. Meanwhile, it will create favorable conditions for electricity cross-sea rationing and the development of Hainan power network. Since it was put into operation 6 years ago, the total electricity transmission registered 1.37 TWH. In 2014 alone, the electricity transmission was up to 0.61 TWH.
