Joint Laboratories Between Shuohuang Railway and CARS Inaugurated

The agreement signing ceremony and inaugural ceremony of two heavy-haul railway technology laboratories jointly established by Shuohuang Railway Co., Ltd. under China Energy Investment Corporation and China Academy of Railway Sciences Corporation Limited (CARS) were held in Beijing on March 11.

CARS is the only comprehensive research institution with multi-disciplines and multi-specialties in China’s railway industry. It has conducted research and experiments on many important and key technologies in the fields of railway construction, production and transportation. It boasts a strong testing force in high-speed railway, heavy-haul transport, and equipment modernization, safety and informationization, and has achieved a number of world-leading results.

Through its wholly-funded subsidiary National Energy Transportation Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd., Shuohuang Railway has collaborated with the Railway Engineering Research Institute and the Signal & Communication Research Institute under CARS to establish two joint laboratories, namely the China Energy Shuohuang Heavy-haul Railway Engineering Operation and Maintenance Technology Laboratory and the China Energy Shuohuang Heavy-haul Railway Intelligent Communication & Signal Joint Laboratory.

The launch of the joint laboratories is a practical move taken by the two sides to complement their advantages and combine CARS’ strength in technological innovation and Shuohuang Railway’s abundant heavy-haul transport application scenarios. As a major step of strategic importance taken by China Energy to participate in and lead the exploration of cutting-edge technologies in the area of heavy-haul transport, it has far-reaching influence on improving China Energy’s research capacity in heavy-haul transportation and will play a vital role in advancing high-quality development of intelligent transportation.
