China Energy’s Qinghai, Yunnan Companies Initiate Earthquake Emergency Response to Ensure Safety

At 9:48 p.m. on May 21, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake hit Yangbi Yi Autonomous County in Dali, southwest China’s Yunnan Province, with a depth of 8 km. Hours later, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake, with a depth of 17 km, jolted Maduo County of Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China’s Qinghai Province, at 2:04 a.m. on May 22. It was the strongest earthquake in China since the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. China Energy’s subsidiaries in Qinghai and Yunnan responded quickly to the disaster and started special emergency response to ensure safe production and fulfill social responsibility of central enterprise.

Qinghai Company implemented emergency response measures immediately after the quake hit, deploying all its enterprises to inspect the power generation facilities and equipment as well as project construction sites to eliminate all kinds of hidden dangers and ensure steady power generation and safe construction. Inspection results showed that no abnormalities were found at the construction site of the Maerdang Hydropower Station, none of the 2,100 construction and management workers was injured or killed, and none of large construction equipment, houses and other facilities was damaged. There was no obvious damage to major equipment and structures at China Energy’s enterprises in Qinghai and Yunnan, and all equipment was operating normally and properly.
