The World Economic Forum held a Davos Agenda virtual event on January 17, 2022, at which it officially released “Seizing Business Opportunities in China’s Transition Towards a Nature-positive Economy” (in both Chinese and English) as part of the New Nature Economy Reports series. In the report, the ecological restoration practice in the mining area of Zhungeer Energy Group under China Energy Investment Corporation was cited as a case study for “nature-positive mineral resources extraction transition.”

The World Economic Forum (WEF), also known as “Davos Forum,” was founded by Professor Klaus Schwab, and has become one of the most influential forums in the world. It provides a platform for dialogue between the world’s leading 1,000 companies and governments of various countries and regions on global hot issues and emerging industry trends, opens an important window to observe the new achievements, innovative theories and emerging trends of global economy, and has a certain influence on the trend of the world economic development. The WEF publishes a series of reports on a regular basis every year, aiming to discuss a wide range of global issues in a comprehensive and detailed manner with its stakeholders to fulfill its mission of improving the state of the world.

The New Nature Economy Reports series is a major series of reports released by the WEF this year. The report shows that significant business opportunities can be created through the adoption of new business practices in three key socio-economic systems (food, land and ocean use; infrastructure and the built environment; and energy and extractives). The three systems are interconnected and can unlock untapped economic potential. More than a dozen Chinese case studies highlighting good nature-positive practices in different sectors, including Zhungeer Energy Group’s efforts in land use of mining area by combining ecological rehabilitation with photovoltaic power generation, were included in the report to demonstrate China’s progress in these three socio-economic systems and inspired solutions for accelerating transition through case studies.

In order to better leverage the authoritative international platform and resources of the WEF and boost its corporate global image, China Energy has been working closely with the WEF Beijing Representative Office since the first half of 2021. Following a joint seminar on “Corporate Ecological Protection under the Carbon Neutrality Target,” the two sides invited experts from the WEF and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to visit the CCUS and mine reclamation projects of China Energy in Inner Mongolia and Shaanxi to understand the company’s achievements in low carbon emission reduction and green development, which received high recognition from the experts.
