China Energy’s Power Generation Hits New High in July

from:China Energy Investment Corporationdate:2021-08-12

This July, China Energy generated electricity of 107.8 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 19.4 billion kWh. This figure marked a new all-time high, laying a solid foundation for achieving the goal of generating power of more than 1 trillion kWh by the end of this year.

Since the beginning of July, extreme weather events such as rainstorms and hurricanes have hit several regions in China. China Energy’s power plants in provinces like Jiangsu, Shandong, Anhui, Zhejiang, Henan and Hebei were affected, with their production and operations facing challenges. Under the strong leadership of the corporation, however, they united as one and overcame emergencies caused by natural disasters, such as the disruption of Rongyang company’s rail line, the besiegement of the headquarters of Jiaozuo company by the flood, and the wind disaster causing the damage of wind turbines in Shandong. Their efforts ensured safety amidst floods and hurricanes.

While maintaining safe production, all subsidiaries of China Energy have done their best to achieve the targets of power generation for the year. Coal-fired power plants overcame the shortage of coal supply and weak transport capacity due to the floods by upgrading fuel management and increasing coal storage. Those measures enabled them to enhance their power generation capacity, achieving an increase of 16.8 billion kWh of electricity generated in July over the same period of 2020. This ensured power supply to support the fight against floods while meeting the surging demand in summertime. Hydropower plants overcame challenges such as the decline of water table by promoting economical operations and enhancing the efficiency of water use. Despite the fact that the water from upstream dropped by 30 percent, the volume of electricity they generated in July saw a year-on-year increase of 11 percent. Wind farms strengthened provincial-level coordination and gave priority to the maintenance and repair of generation units in areas with limited power supply. Through enhancing the equipment use efficiency, they achieved decline in both the rate of abandoned wind and the rate of fault-induced electricity loss. In July, the volume of electricity they generated increased by more than 30 percent year-on-year.
