CTG wins bid for debut EPCO project for protection of Yangtze River

A consortium led by Yangtze Ecology and Environment Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), won a bid for a major Engineering Procurement Construction Operation (EPCO) project in Wuhan on July 22, marking the first EPCO project CTG has successfully landed since it began participating in the Yangtze River protection project.

The EPCO project, located at the Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (‘Optics Valley’), comprises pile foundation pre-embedding for the aerial railway of Optics Valley’s central ecological corridor.

The EPCO is model that integrates the design, construction and operation processes of a project covering its whole life cycle, a departure from traditional operating models which tend to place too much emphasis on construction.

In the current economic policy context, the successful implementation of the EPCO model will serve as a significant achievement in the search for urgently needed new models and mechanisms for the sustainable protection of the Yangtze River.

The Wuhan project is a supporting infrastructure project for the upcoming construction of the Optics Valley ecological corridor. As a major part of the Optics Valley, the ecological corridor will be built on the Baozi River using raw natural resources from within a 500-meter radius to create a landscaped environment featuring a compound natural water system and artificial wetlands.
