Three Gorges Reservoir discharges water in preparation for flood season-1

The Three Gorges Dam, built and operated by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), has reduced its water level to 144.99 meters on June 6, releasing flood control capacity of 22.15 billion cubic meters to prepare the Yangtze River region for the upcoming flood season.

The released storage is equivalent to the amount of water that would be required to fill the West Lake 1,550 times. The West Lake is a renowned freshwater lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province with a surface area of 6.4 square kilometers.

The Three Gorges Reservoir has now completed its task of discharging water for the flood season in 2020 and has moved into its flood control phase. As a key component of the flood control system in the Yangtze River Basin, the Three Gorges Project will play a significant role in flood control during the flooding season, ensuring safe flood control in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
