CTG completes major water conservancy project in Ecuador

China International Water & Electric Corp, a subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), announced that the Santa Elena water conservancy project it built in Ecuador has passed final inspection on July 27 and was officially handed over to its owner, the Ecuador National Water Project Company.

The project will ensure the provision of irrigation water for 340,000 hectares of local land, improving the livelihoods of 560,000 people. It is the largest water conservancy project to be completed in Ecuador in recent years and one of the largest civil projects. The construction contract was signed on December 30, 2015.

The project was mainly comprised of the restoration of a 105-km-long diversion channel and the spillways of a reservoir dam as well as the replacement of a 158-km-long secondary hydraulic supply line, the laying of a 21-km-long primary waterline, the expansion and replacement of 23 sets of water conveying pumps, and the maintenance of two large pump station units.
