CTG Brasil supports reforestation actions

In partnership with the Itesp Foundation, CTG Brasil distributed about 4,350 seedlings of native species that will be planted in areas with Agroforestry System projects, located in the settlements Estrela Dalva and São Bento, São Paulo.

The distribution of the seedlings is part of our Forest Promotion Program, developed by Rio Paranapanema Energia, which is focused on supporting rural producers and civil society organizations in the implementation of individual or community forest recovery projects, through the free distribution of native species seedlings of the region. The project has already benefited around 78 municipalities, 1,200 rural landowners and municipal actions.

"In 2021, by the end of May, we have already distributed 34,500 seedlings to projects located in municipalities surrounding the 8 HPPs in the region. Since the beginning of this initiative, more than 3.5 million forest seedlings of native species have already been distributed through the Forest Promotion Program", explains Simone Leite dos Santos in the environment team of CTG Brasil.

To receive donations of seedlings, the projects must be located in the contribution basin of the reservoirs under the Rio Paranapanema Energia concession or in areas characterized as important for the connectivity of the region.

"One of our motivations is to establish partnerships with farmers and entities linked to projects aimed at regional development, promoting the environmental suitability of rural properties that are in the reservoirs' area of influence," concludes Simone.

*Agroforestry systems (SAFs) are forms of land use, where the planting of tree species is combined with agricultural crops, resulting in economic benefits (food production) and ecological benefits (environmental preservation).
