Moray East offshore wind farm in UK commissions first power unit-1

Moray East offshore wind farm, a project jointly developed by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) and Energias de Portugal (EDP), announced that it has commenced exporting its first power to the British national grid on June 5.

The Moray East offshore wind farm, located in Moray Firth of Scotland, is the largest offshore wind power project in Scotland. It has a total installed capacity of 950 MW and an average annual utilization of over 4,000 hours. It is expected to supply electricity to more than 100,000 local households when it is put into operation.

Moray East secured a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD) for power generation in September 2017. Later in 2018, CTG acquired a 10 percent stake in the project, the first time for a Chinese company to invest in a 1-GW offshore wind power project overseas.

Moray East began construction in December 2018 and hoisted the first wind turbine on January 15, 2021, laying a solid ground for its subsequent construction. The project is currently well on track and is expected to be fully operational in April 2022.
