CTG offers help to international students amid epidemic-1

Joao Graca Gomes, a Portuguese student living in China, decided to stay in Shanghai instead of returning home after the COVID-19 outbreak. He was funded by the CTG scholarship program in 2018 and is now studying at the Sino-British International Low Carbon College in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He applied for an internship at the CTG a few months ago.

“My friends and especially my family are very concerned about the epidemic in China. I told them that everything was fine here and China had made great efforts to fight the epidemic. Everything will be back to normal in the near future,” he said.

Several other Portuguese students funded by CTG had returned to their country in the early period of the outbreak during the school's winter vacation, so their lives were not affected.

In addition to the Portguguese students, CTG also funded 18 Pakistan students. At this critical moment, the company pays close attention to the health of these students.

In early January, after consulting the students, the company decided to send the Pakistani students home. However, one of the students, Malik Tariq was hospitalized because of a fracture and could not return to Pakistan. His three classmates also decided to stay in order to take better care of him.

As the epidemic entered a critical period, coupled with language and cultural differences, they became increasingly concerned. After learning about the situation, Li Changjing, who was responsible for docking with Pakistan at CTG, immediately contacted the university to provide them with psychological counseling and contacted the domestic airline to send the remaining 14 students back to Pakistan.

Epidemic prevention supplies are some of the most difficult things to buy now. Li and his colleagues searched for supplies through various channels, and finally sent a batch of goggles, masks and other epidemic prevention supplies to those overseas students in China.

After receiving the supplies, Malik was very moved and updated his photos on his WeChat Moments, with the caption: Thank you, China, Thank you, China Three Gorges Corporation. Thanks for your care. Come on, China! Come on, Wuhan!

Other Portuguese exstudents also sent letters to inspire China.

"I learned from Chinese friends that the situatio is being controlled in China. I hope everyone is fine and life can return to normal as soon as possible. I wish you all the best in China!" said Luis Miguel Pinto.
