CTG-backed Karot hydropower project installs runner for its NO.1 power unit-1

The Karot hydropower project in Pakistan, funded by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), recently started the installation of the runner for its NO.1 hydraulic generator, signaling that the generator has entered the phase of final assembly.

The runner of No.1 power unit is the first large component that has been installed during the electromechanical installation of the project in 2021. Its successful installation creates favorable conditions for the subsequent installation work of the power unit and lays a solid foundation for the scheduled electricity generation of the power unit.

The Karot project is the first large-scale hydropower project invested and constructed under the Belt and Road Initiative, the first hydropower investment of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as well as the largest ongoing greenfield hydropower project CTG has invested overseas so far.

Built on the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus River in northern Pakistan, the power plant will have an installed capacity of 720,000 kilowatts, making it the fifth largest hydroelectric power plant in Pakistan upon completion. It will not only help plug the power gap in the country, but also directly create more than 2,000 jobs.
