China Yangtze Power supplies of 5.94 TWh of electricity to Hubei in Q1 2020-1

Four cascade hydropower plants owned by China Yangtze Power Co, generated a total of 35.29 TWh of electricity in the first quarter of 2020, the listed power arm of China Three Gorges Corp (CTG) said.

The company, which operates Three Gorges, Gezhouba, Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba hydropower plants, supplied 5.94 TWh of electricity to Hubei in the first quarter, powering the epidemic prevention and control efforts and businesses’ production resumption.

The Three Gorges and Gezhouba power plants generated 20.16 TWh of electricity in the first three months of 2020, up 3.7 percent from a year earlier, setting a record and ensuring the power supplies in Hubei province and other regions in their combat against the epidemic.

The Three Gorges Reservoir replenished over 10 billion cubic meters to lower reaches of the Yangtze River by March 31 as upstream water level subsided to nearly 165m. The replenishment operation ensured the critical water supply in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River as businesses there returned to production and spring farming irrigation needs picked up.
