China Three Gorges New Energy Got Approval for 300 MW Offshore Wind Farm Project in Yangxi Shaba

On November 19, the 300 MW offshore wind farm project, which is located at Yangxi Shaba Bay in Guangdong Province, kicked off construction. This is China Three Gorges New Energy’s (CTGNE) first offshore wind farm in Guangdong.

In recent years, new energy has become the second business pillar of CTG. At the core of this business is offshore wind power. As Guangdong is the most economi-cally developed province in China, it has high energy demand and has become a center of competition in the area of offshore wind power.

In July 2016, CTG envisaged building scalable offshore wind farms in eastern and western Guangdong to drive related industries, such as establishing a wind power manufacturing center in Yangjiang (in western Guangdong), an operation and mainte-nance center in Shantou(in eastern Guangdong), and a wind power research center in collaboration with Ming Yang Wind Power Group. In May 2016, CTGNE and Yangjiang signed a strategic cooperation agreement on the development of 1100 MW offshore wind resources, marking the first deal of its kind in Guangdong. Following that, CTG successfully obtained the license to develop offshore wind resources of 300 MW in Shantou.
