Seven impoverished counties in Yunnan, all assisted by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), have been officially removed from country's list of poverty-stricken counties on May 17.
The seven counties, including county-level cities are: Lianghe County in Dehong Prefecture, Gongshan County in Nujiang Prefecture, Weixi County in Diqing Prefecture, and Shaoyang District, Ludian County, Qiaojia County and Yongshan County in Shaotong City.
CTG has stepped up poverty alleviation efforts in Yunnan in the past four years, focusing on six areas such as relocation and settlement projects, cultivation of featured industries, and environmental protection.
It has offered continuous support for three primitive ethnic groups including Nu, Pumi and Jingbo, and other ethnic groups with less population. CTG has helped lift more than 175,000 people in Nujiang and other prefectures out of poverty, with entire Pumi and Jingpo populations successfully shaking off poverty.
