The Three Gorges shiplift, built and owned by China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), started its planned shutdown for maintenance on August 21, the first scheduled suspension for maintenance since its completion and acceptance on December 27, 2019.

The 35-day maintenance work will further improve the conditions of the shiplift's equipment and facilities, ensure its safe, stable and efficient operation, boosting Yangtze River’s role as a golden waterway.

The Three Gorges shiplift, the largest and the most technically challenging vertical shiplift in the world, have handled 16,700 ships, 466,000 passengers and a cargo load of 6.8 million tons in 22,000 times of operation since it kicked off trial operation in 2016.
