China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), the world’s biggest hydropower developer, announced that its four cascade power plants in the Yangtze River basin generated 226.93 billion TWh of electricity in 2020, setting a new annual power generation record since their operations.

The clean electricity generated by Three Gorges, Gezhouba, Xiluodu and Xiangjiaba cascade power plants in 2020 is equivalent to saving 69.53 million tons of standard coal, reducing 190.17 million tons of carbon dioxide, 42,400 tons of sulfur dioxide, and 44,200 tons of nitrogen oxides, if the same amount of electricity were produced by coal-fired power plants. This shows that the Yangtze River clean energy corridor not only delivered massive energy-saving benefits, but also contributed to the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient energy system.
