CHN Energy’s Procurement Category and Volume Hit Historical High

On the afternoon of November 5, at the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE), CHN Energy signed contracts with 40 suppliers from 18 countries and regions including Mongolia, Russia, Germany, and the United States to conduct cooperation on coal, high-end equipment, bulk commodities, among others, with a total value of US$2.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 38%. The procurement hit a historical high in both category and volume. “Looking back upon the five-year development of the CIIE, CHN Energy has actively implemented the general principle of ‘holding a successful and effective expo that is better and better’, and its procurement categories and volumes at the CIIE have increased year after year, its circle of friends at the event has continued expanding, and it has achieved increasingly fruitful achievements in cooperation,” said Wang Shumin at the contract signing ceremony. “In the last three years, CHN Energy’s procurement volume has grown at an average annual rate of 20%, testifying to the corporation’s new momentum in high-quality development.”

At the CIIE, many foreign companies spoke highly of their cooperation with CHN Energy and showed great confidence about the development opportunities brought by China’s opening up. Ye Fei, President and CEO of Michelin China, noted that since the first CIIE in 2018, Michelin has signed cooperation agreements with CHN Energy for five consecutive years, and the CIIE has witnessed the two world-class enterprises achieve common development and make encouraging achievements in the field of intelligent mining together. Matteo Bavaresco, CEO of Prysmian Group China, said that the CIIE witnessed Prysmian and CHN Energy grow together, and upholding the principle of “mutual trust, mutual understanding, mutual consultation and shared benefits”, the two sides would continue strengthen cooperation in high-end manufacturing and create a bright future of openness and prosperity. During this year’s CIIE, Wang Shumin attended the parallel session on “Acting on the Global Development Initiative to Build World-class Enterprises”. Feng Shuchen held talks with Yao Zhenguo, Executive Vice President and China General Manager of Siemens Ltd., and the two sides conducted in-depth communication on furthering cooperation.

During the CIIE, the procurement delegation of CHN Energy toured the exhibition halls to visit the exhibition zones such as “Technical Equipment” and “Trade in Services”, learned about new technologies, products and services, and communicated with exhibitors. With an eye on the current trends of international frontier technologies in fields like hydrogen energy, mining equipment, electric equipment, and low-carbon technology, they directly held talks with excellent suppliers in the sector of imported equipment manufacturing and services to explore new areas for industrial cooperation and create mutually beneficial development opportunities together.

2022 marks the fifth year that the procurement delegation of CHN Energy participated in the contract signing campaign. At the first CIIE, CHN Energy signed contracts with 21 companies from 10 countries and regions, and this year it signed contracts with 40 enterprises from 18 countries and regions, with the figure almost doubling. Besides, the categories of commodities it purchased have also continued expanding, from coal mining machines, excavators, tires, engines, and compressors at the first CIIE to imported high-quality coal, high-end equipment, and key materials and parts at this year’s expo. At the same time, the procurement volume increased some US$500 million at the first CIIE to this year’s US$2.5 billion. Over the five years, the total procurement volume added up to US$7.2 billion.
